As a youth pastor, we often pour a lot of time and energy into teaching and worshipping with other people’s kids and their families. Community like this can be very fruitful, but personally, I found that I invested my most creative time and energy into other people’s families and my family got whatever was left over (which wasn’t much).

Although I never would’ve admitted it out loud, my actions indicated that I valued teaching and worshipping with other people’s kids more than I did with my own.

Rob Rienow of Visionary Family Ministries shares a similar story. In the video below we both discuss our stories of conviction in youth and family ministry and how it’s brought us to where we are today with leading our own families spiritually.
