Jim Burns of HomeWord recently published a free 6-part lesson series on sexuality purity called, The Purity Code. Many people have issues with sexual abstinence tools that push teens to sign a pledge card, and the research backs up the fact that signing a card definitely does not mean much to the teen a year or two later. However, we all would agree that sex is an important issue to discuss with teens. Culture bombards teens with pre-martial and homosexual messages constantly. They’re talking about it, we should, too. You may not want to follow Jim’s lessons exactly the way they’re written (in fact, I strongly that you never use a curriculum without editing it for your specific context and students), but at least his content provides a good starting point for talk points. Here’s the description of The Purity Code lesson series:
Remaining pure in body, mind, eyes, and heart could be the most difficult thing kids will face in their preteens and teens–and into adulthood. Jim Burns, trusted radio host and founder of HomeWord, has developed the Pure Foundations series, designed to guide parents and their kids through the sometimes uncomfortable discussions about their developing bodies and God’s plan for healthy sexuality.
